"The Golden Rule" by Jamy Hicks

Here are Jamy's notes from the confrence call Tuesday night 05/11/2010.

Reminder: There will not be a call 05/18/2010! I will have family in and it will be a busy week.

“The Golden Rule”

With Scentsy growing at such a rapid pace we tend to get caught up in the business aspect and at times we momentarily lose sight of the Golden Rule. It’s known that we as independent consultants are business owners, but we also have to remember we are all team-mates as well. Our business can’t grow and expand without each other.

So when you’re caught in a situation of which you may “step on someone’s toes” think fast… How would that feel about that?! Trouble trickles down… it has a snowball effect. So avoid it by remembering that a little common courtesy can calm a possible INTENSE storm!

• If a customer approaches you claiming they already have a consultant and they want to order or have a party ASK who their
Consultant is. The before you commit, let them know that you’d love to but since they are “Suzie’s” customer you would like to make sure your not stepping on her toes. Nine times out of ten, the sale or party will be yours but it can surely avoid all potential drama AND the customer automatically put you on another level from other normal consultants.

• Avoid the harsh, pushy and pity party sales. Don’t tell your customer “You need to buy from me because I need the money.” Scentsy sells itself. Remember how irritated, overwhelmed and exhausted you feel when you are trying to buy a car. Most people dodge car salesmen because they are over-the-top pushy. However, those few salesmen who let the customer decide what they want without breathing down their neck ALWAYS have repeat customers! I know I’ve bought my last 2 vehicles for that exact reason. The last thing we want to do is put a bad label on such an AWESOME business! So … let Scentsy do what it does… sell itself!

• Follow the “chain of command”. If you have a question, problem, issue, concern…etc, call your SPONSOR! That is what they are there for. If they can’t answer the question allow them to make the call to their director and/or sponsor. I go to lunch with Cheri quite often and that poor girl’s phone rings NON-STOP! I realize there are times when you are in a crunch and need answers quick but I’m sure your sponsor will be completely willing to help!! I know Cheri answers her phone and/or responds to the texts regardless because she’s just that kind. But if that were one of my team-mates who were contacting her before they bothered to ask me I’d be upset. “Golden Rule…”

We are entering an open field of opportunity with summer just a few weeks ahead. If we are taking care of our customers most issues can be all together non-existent.

• Call your customer to check on them.
• Send them PERSONAL emails.
• Send them a note in the mail.

All of the above don’t have to be about business either. Add a personal touch can do wonders. All of these are just small examples loyalty. It’s what can set you apart from other Consultants. Your customer will never even think twice about WHO they are going to call with a party/order because your name and your consideration will be freshly on their mind at all times. They will remember that YOU went the extra mile for them! When another consultant approaches your customer there will be absolutely no doubt in their mind that they will keep their business with YOU; because your heart is filled with the Scentsy Spirit!!

Becoming an Influential Person

Here is our worksheet I created that we went over at our meeting yesterday here in the Falls. I will also send via email from the word doc for each of you have. Hope you all have a wonderful "Hump" day!!

Becoming an Influential Person

“Give honest, sincere appreciation. People will cherish your words and treasure them and repeat them over a lifetime—repeat them years after you have forgotten them.” –Dale Carnegie

What “one” rule did your parents have that was most important? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
What were some of the excuses you used when you broke this rule? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Why do we always come up with excuses? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
What can you learn about dealing with people knowing that they will always have an excuse? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
“Criticism is futile because it puts a person on the defensive and usually makes him strive to justify himself. Criticism is dangerous because it wounds a person precious price, hurts his sense of importance, and arouses resentment.” Dale Carnegie
Why doesn’t it work to criticize people? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
How do you affect people if you don’t criticize? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

“I consider my ability to arouse enthusiasm among my people the greatest asset I possess, and the way to develop the best that is in a person is by encouragement. There is nothing else that so kills the ambitions of a person as criticisms from superiors. I NEVER criticize anyone. I believe in giving a person incentive to work. So I am anxious to praise but loath to find fault. If I like anything, I am hearty in my approbation and lavish in my praise.” Dale Carnegie

When were you the recipient of praise and how did it make you feel? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When were you the giver of praise and the effect that it had on receiver and yourself? __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
List 3-5 people in your group/team (if you don’t have a team yet, ones that you can work on to become part of your team) that you would like to work this principle with. What are these 3-5 people doing that you can praise them for? _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
What actions can you take monthly to praise people in their organization? _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
How can you effectively praise your customers and hostesses? _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

CONVENTION:

I wanted to work with each of you in my downline to ensure all those who want to attend Convention have the opportunity to receive “early bird” pricing of $150, with the option to pay in monthly installments, before the 3/31/2010 deadline.
If you are a Director on my team, it is crucial for you to attend convention if you want to see your business grow. If you are sponsor, I would truly recommend going to convention. If you just started with Scentsy, you may make your own decision but Convention will CHANGE your BUSINESS!
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask your sponsor or me.

BLOG:

Again, another quick note, I have been posting on the blog and very few are responding. We have over 120 people in our group and only 19 people are signed up for the blog. I have had chances for two giveaways and no one has received them. Shall I continue the blog? I really would like your feedback. I can focus my time on something else for each of you rather than the blog if you think it is not working. I really would love your feedback.

This month I have not mentioned prizes, I have them written down and just noticed I have not passed them along.
I wanted to let you know the March prizes so if you were close to getting one, you still have several days to get there! Notice I have went down to $500 again, so if you are near $500 I would get those other orders to push you over, the new Scentsy pens are so cute.

Recap of Monica's call last night.

Monica did an excellent job on the call last night. If you may have any questions, please feel free to post them on the blog so other consultants can see and help answer them.

Recap of Monica’s call:
Fair/Shows
Inventory is crucial. Make sure you have plenty of light bulbs. Rule of thumb is to always have at least 4 times of inventory for your entry free. Example: Your entry fee is $80 you will need $320 in product. Take your most popular Warmers (all), bars (favorites), car candles, and travel tins. You never go home with your entire product.

Before the show

Label all your warmers, top and bottom, and outside of the box. Label all bars, car candles, and travel tins. Have some sort of organization before you go to the show. Always practice setting up your display before your show. “Start Your Own Business” sign on Scentsy Success is a good way to advertise joining your team. If you can’t sell directly from your booth, have a lot of fliers, samples, and displays. People will want to know more. Have plenty of pens and paper for your drawing. Have your calendar marked with your open and closed dates.

Setting up

Make sure your inventory is on the table where people can see what you have. Use a decorated peg board for your bars, car candles, and travel tin display. Husband made a plug-in display to show her plug-ins. Be sure to have a drawing so you can receive customer information rather they buy something or not. I have a excel sheet that I put on the table asking for their name, phone number, address and email address. I have had several people fill that out. It is a good way to get their contact information too. Have your testers in case they want to order something you don’t have.
Always talk at your booth. Don’t sit and wait for the customer’s to come to you. Make sure you are saying hello to every person that walks by your booth. Put something Scentsy with your name on it in their hand. Have plenty of samples on the table with the name of the scent on the sample. Have mini catalogs so you are not giving out all your catalogs. (Available on Scentsy Success)
Always have a warmer or two going. Use a favorite smell. I would not suggest using your favorite. If you pick something out of the Favorites section you are guaranteed people to stop. After all they aren’t favorites for nothing.

Scent of the Month Club

Offer this at your parties and shows. Let everyone be a part of your club. They will feel special and think they are VIP. Not a lot of cost or time involved and can double your sales. Subscribe to the scent of the month on your workstation to get started.

Monica Jones- Speaker of tomorrow's call.

After our conference call last night I have had some suggestions, and I totally agree and feel comfortable with them. So as for our group weekly calls held every Tuesday evening, we are changing up the time line just a little bit. This call is for the entire group and potential recruits as well. So feel free to invite everyone.

Each week we will have a different topic, we will discuss what you all want to discuss for only the first 30 minutes. Then we will open the conversation to question/answer time. I hope this will keep you all calling in each week. I know it may get a little old listening to me each week, so with that said; I am looking to have guest speakers often so you don’t get bored with me. I know I know I am a little boring, didn’t think so until I started holding conference calls. Ha!

Our first speaker will be Monica Jones, Star Consultant; she will be discussing “How to have a successful Fair/Show” and her Scent of the month club. You will enjoy learning all the cool things she does. Monica started with Scentsy on December 8, 2008. She is an accountant at a local credit union in Wichita Falls; she is a proud mother of 2 boys and 1 girl. Her husband is a fire fighter here in Wichita Falls, TX. Monica loves to spend time with her family and she also shows wonderful leadership skills to her team.

Group Conference Calls every Tuesday at 8:30 pm Central Standard Time.

except on March 23, 2010 I will be out of town

Lead and Higher Calls every Saturday at 10:00 am Central Standard Time.

except March 13, 2010

I will start holding a monthly meeting again starting in April. I look forward to seeing everyone again and even the new faces. TBA

Let me know if you have any questions.

PS Email you have received from Michaela Chaplin are ok. Please respond to the email. Make sure there are no delays in your Convention registration.

BUY, HOST, JOIN!

Here are a couple of things to tie into my topic last night on the call. I hope this will help you in your business. You are what Scentsy is...

Scentsational Ideas....Buy

• Staple a small wax sample and your business card in a little bag to the brochure. When you’re giving them awayquickly it will give potential buyers the chance to see and SMELL Scentsy. Make a sensory impact to watch yoursales grow.

• Make your own specials! Use the colorful “Make Your Own Coupon” template from www.scentsysuccess.com to create your own offers to staple to the brochure to drive sales. For example...“Place your order before 0/0/00 (date) and I’ll give you a FREE Car Candle when I deliver!”
“Come and sample my testers before 0/0/00 (date) and receive 10% off your order”
There are a lot of reasons to BUY Scentsy. Give customers a reason to do it quickly to prevent procrastination and them losing your marketing materials. Give them a deadline!

• Add an invitation to the brochure! Include an upcoming Open House date and address so that Scentsy can be experienced
first hand. Prominently feature the day, time and location. Encourage her to bring a friend by offering a prize. This is a great, low-pressure way to extend a deadline for your customer to BUY!

• If Scentsy is really new in your area, consider using the brochure as your invitation. Ask invited guests to sign it, add their phone number and pass it to a friend. The last friend in the line can return it to you and every name signed and attending can win a fun, inexpensive prize or a discount! A great way to encourage guests to “share the scentsation!”

• Let the BUY brochure advertise your basket parties! Make sure you include a handful of brochures anytime your basket testers leave your possession. Give them to the basket hostess and add a simple note:
“SCENTSY IS HERE! Don’t miss it!
“I have the testers at my home until 0/0/00, Call me!”
“SCENTSY is in the break room! Accepting orders until Friday”
“Take a smell and pass these testers to the next desk!”

• Give a brochure to every hostess to take and show off when she hand-delivers her invitations for her event! Or even give her a few so she can leave one with guests who have scheduling conflicts and won’t be able to attend. She’ll be eager to generate excitement BEFORE the party even starts so she can maximize her rewards.

• Hand out a brochure to neighbors and friends to promote special events, holidays and sales. “Perfect for Mothers Day”. Make a flyer and hand it out. Offer free gift-wrapping and don’t forget to include the last date for guaranteed orders. Make the most of months that offer 10% savings, or even hold your OWN sale on inventory!

• Hand them out at parties to guests who have friends that might like Scentsy. Have them take one, sign it, add their phone number. Tell them anyone that gets a friend to place an order and return the brochure wins a prize or additional discount.

Scentsational Ideas....Host
• Staple a booking card and an offer to the brochure and leave several out at events, display locations or shows. Ideas for the offer could include: “Call me and fill in the date and time and receive a FREE Scent of the Month” “Ask me about hosting your own event and win a prize!”

• Attach a calendar (available at www.scentsysuccess.com in the FREE DOWNLOADS area). Highlight select dates that you are available for parties and leave it out at all of your occasions!

• Attach the brochure to a basket of goodies or product to display. Add a note and let everyone know they can take it home if they book TODAY!

• Bundle the brochure in a cute bag with a car candle, your business card and invitations. Carry a few with you everywhere you go and be READY for any opportunity that might come up. Be sure you have your calendar handy!

• Look at the “average” sizes of parties - $150, $250, $500... make a list of all of the FREE and Half-Price items that a hostess could potentially get if she hosted a similar party. Attach the list to the brochure to show when you speak with a potential hostess.

• Highlight “opportune” times to host on a calendar that you can attach to the brochure. For example, “Host these weeks for optimal Mother’s Day gift sales!”. “School will be out, we’ll have plenty of time this week”. “Guests can save 10% on my product this month!” and “I have a NEW catalog coming. Be FIRST to see it!”

• Once a hostess has been booked, have her sign her brochure and give it to a friend that might like to host.
If the friend books with you, offer the hostess a gift or additional discount.

Scentsational Ideas....Join

• Never be without a JOIN brochure in your possession! Include a short, four to five paragraph note that features YOUR story. Tell them what excited you and how you’re doing. Tell them what inspired YOU to Join.

• Add a JOIN brochure in any order bag of a customer that may have asked you about your business. Handwrite a simple note that tells them they can earn a little extra money selling something they love!

• Drop one off to a friend or neighbor that may be looking for extra money in the down economy. Outline the freedom, being your own boss, the control over hours and being able to focus as much or as little attention as
you need to as you care for a family or other work obligations.

• Highlight the benefits that come when they Join YOUR team. Tell them how you train, when you are available to help, when you hold your team meetings and calls. Outline the help that comes from Scentsy corporate and the support system that benefitted your business.

• Leave several anywhere you have a Scentsy display. As more and more people look for work, you’ll want to prominently display the Scentsy opportunity.

• Leave at least one with every basket party.

• Consider an offer of a small discount, a free gift, marketing tools, etc. that you create on a FREE DOWNLOAD coupon. Add a deadline to encourage people to call.

• Always attach an invitation to an upcoming training event that they can attend and see the excitement and support that come with a Scentsy business opportunity.

Way to go girls! We have added 10 new recruits this month so far, and we are only on day 8! You girls ROCK!
If you did not receive my email in your workstation, we now have our 90th consultant.
Brandi Barry was the lucky new consultant and Angela Eakin was the dedicated recruit! Thanks girls!

Now with that said we are already at 92 consultants! Are you going to recruit our 100th consultant? I hope it is YOU! Remember entice them with the extra in their starter kit. Remember to tell them that it will not say they will get extra, but it will show them in their order history.

Sponsors, remember to be there for your new recruits as your sponsor was there for you. Speaking of sponsoring… We need to remember to look beyond our city limits. Look passed the people you see every day. I challenge you to recruit someone that is not in your city or state. You will see how much you will grow, however please do not forget about the people in your area, because they need Scentsy too, but if you will broaden your horizons you will grow rapidly.

Don’t forget to tell everyone about 10% off this month. Make sure your customer’s know of the discontinued items. This will help your monthly sales.

No call tomorrow evening. I am going to take this time to wrap prizes up for those I owe; I have most of it done, but need to get everything in the mail. We will have a call next week. I am heading out to Scentsy Leadership Retreat this weekend with my prince charming. I look forward to covering this with you on our call next Tuesday February 16th.

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

A little shy?

How to Cold-Call a New Prospect

Just how do you start your Cold-Call to someone new? The following conversation is not a script; it is an outline of how such a conversation might go.

“Hi there, my name is (use your name and Surname). I am hoping you may be able to help me. I represent a company called Scentsy and I’m looking for people to promote high quality wickless candles in this/your area. Do you know anyone who might be interested in earning a part-time or full-time income, working from home?
Always ask questions pertaining to them. How many children do you have? What do you like to do for fun?

Show your prospect you are genuinely interested in them. This will insure a converstaion with either them or their friends and family.

Gratitude Recruiting - The Gift That Keeps Giving.

Wanted to start this week off with our focus on RECRUITING. This will be the topic of our call next week and wanted to get your heads going right now and touch base with some basic information about recruiting. Hope you all enjoy!

What do all of the following organizations with very different agendas have
in common with Scentsy?

•Girl Scouts
•U.S. Army
•Fortune 500 Companies
•Universities
•American Cancer Society
•Cheerleading Squads
•Fitness Clubs
•Churches

The answer: They ALL recruit

It doesn’t make any difference whether the organizations are designed for profit or charity…for recreation or work. Virtually all organizations grow by recruiting like-minded members.

Gratitude Recruiting – The Gift That Keeps Giving

Look at the positives that come from introducing someone to Scentsy:

•Scheduling your work around your life, instead of your life around your work
•Having fun while making money
•Making a positive difference in other people’s lives
•Sharing high value products
•Setting & achieving your goals
•Working at your own pace
•Owning your own business
•Using your special gifts to benefit you, your family and others

What ‘s Not To Be Grateful For?
The key to Gratitude Recruiting is to reframe your mental scripts to focus on positive outcomes instead of focusing on what won’t work. Focus on the benefits.

Examples:
•She’s so outgoing Scentsy would be perfect for her
•A flexible schedule would allow her to be home with her children more
•She’s always dreamed of owning he own business

Don’t Let Fear Keep You From Sharing Scentsy With Others.

“Courage isn’t the absence of fear. Courage is taking action in the face of fear”

Remember: "You can get anything in life if you'll just help enough other people get what they want." Zig Ziglar

Have a great week! Cheri

6 Super Tips to Build a Successful TEAM!

While you always want to put your customers first, don't forget about your silent income - your team members! Having a well trained team selling for you can account for half your income. Your downline is one of your most important parts of direct sales. A good team member usually won't take up too much of your time. Aside from a few questions here and there, the hardest working downline members are busy working their business and training themselves. However, it's important to remember this - even if they don't ask for your help, they may need it. Make sure you are paying attention to all of your team, not just the ones contacting you. Here are a few things you can do to help keep motivation up, and to let your downline know you are behind them 100%:

1. Team Emails Do you have information or tips to give? Organize them in a simple newsletter. This can be monthly, weekly, or random. Include expert articles designed to help motivate and train your team. You can also include a summary of your meeting as well, for those that didn't make it.

2. Team Incentives Hold a monthly contest for the most sales, or something similar. This helps boost your own income, while getting your team motivated at the same time. If your company holds a contest, sweeten the deal and offer something extra if someone from your team wins.

3. Give a Personal Touch Don't forget about birthdays, holidays, and other special days. Keep good track of these important dates and include your downline members on your "card-giving" lists. The extra note will let them know they are important to you!

4. Team Blog A great way to keep in contact with everyone. There is many different ways you could set this up to fit your needs. You can give all team members full access to make posts or you could have it set up so they can only leave comments, ask questions etc. You can keep your blog private so only yourself and your team members have access or you can keep this open to the public so everyone can read it.

5. Team Training Part of your responsibilities as a direct selling leader is to train your team members on the specifics of building their direct selling business. One way you can do this is to hold face-to-face team meetings with local team members. Use meetings not just to direct your team, but let it be open for ideas as well. Holding monthly meetings to talk about the month is a great way to help everyone as a whole. Talk about who sold what and where, and any special tips anyone might like to share. It's a great time to answer questions as well! Another way thanks to the wonderful World Wide Web, you can now hold meetings with team members from all over the world. No matter how you choose to do it, training is a necessary part of your role as a team leader.

6. Teach by Example If you aren't selling products yourself, this needs to be at the top of your list. Just as children pick up things from their parents, your team is doing the same. There are many other ways to help motivate and train your team.

Just remember…

They are working for you as hard as they are working for themselves!

Post your ideas for building a successful team. I would love to hear from all your ideas. Comment and you receive a prize from me.

Have a GREAT weekend....remember to book those parties for FEBRUARY.

2010 is going to be your YEAR!

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.
---Nelson Mandela

I hope all had a wonderful time Christmas and a Happy New Year! I have taken a little time off, but now is the time to get back in the game. I hope you will all join me in starting off January right to help us through our new year. This is the toughest month to sell, but for other's this will be their best month. Put your best foot forward and You will succeed!!

Don't forget to make your sample, give those past hostess's a call, call those continued customer's, and those last minute Christmas shoppers...tell them you are thankful for them and they are a key part to your business.

I will post December sales and top sales later today along with January prizes. You all had a fantasic December and I can't wait to see what 2010 has in store for us. We will have a call tomorrow night, but we will not have a meeting. I will let you know when our next meeting will be.

Don't frown because you never know who is falling in love with your smile. ---Sinvyest Tan

Happy Monday!!!!!
